My M.A.C Interview Experience.

10:00 AM

Iʻm pretty sure I've said this before but I'm going to say it again: MAKEUP IS EVERYTHING. I'm not as crazy obsessed like I was when I first got into makeup - but makeup is still a big part of me. I wear makeup, put makeup on others, buy makeup & so why not apply for a makeup store? So here is my experience when I applied to MAC.

We all know and love the store MAC. They have amazing makeup products from outgoing body paint to subtle natural makeup. They help out with big time fashion shows, celebrities collaborate with them, and all of their VIVA Glam Lipsticks proceeds helps the AIDS Fund. I've been waiting to apply because it it only open every 6 months. As the time got closer I completely forgot about it but a friend of mines reminded me. There are 2 interview phases that one goes through.

Phase 1: (One on One Interview about the Basics)
  • Why do you want to work for MAC?
  • What other languages do you speak?
  • What do you know about MAC?
The day I went I had the worst migraines but I pushed through and went at the time I went it wasn't busy at all so I was called in as soon as I entered the store. The manager I had was gorgeous, very genuine, and loved my resume and listened to what I had to say. She accepted me for phase 2 because she wanted to see what I had to offer. I was crazy excited!

Phase 2: (Group Interview and Makeup Skills)

The week leading up to the second phase I researched everything I could, I looked on the website, their youtube videos, and makeup techniques. I trained myself to do makeup under 30 minutes because that is all we were going to have day of. The day of the interview I was so nervous, I had to throw up & just sit in the bathroom to calm down. From 3 girls waiting it turned to 8 girls. We entered the room with 3 MAC Managers waiting for us. Here are some questions they asked:
  • Do you have makeup experience?
  • Name some Senior Advisors of MAC.
  • Where do you get your inspiration from?
  • What are 5 top things you look for in a company?
  • What does creativity mean to you?
They either asked us one by one or only chose a few people to answer.

Next part was the most nerve-wracking part...putting makeup on models. You're allowed to bring your own model in so that was great, but there is a twist -- they could possibly switch the models on you! Here are the things we prepared for:
  • We asked our models what look are they going for.
  • The makeup process takes 30 MINUTES ONLY!
  • We had 5 minutes to talk to models (not including the 30 minutes).
  • We had 10 minutes to gather items (not including the 30 minutes).
  • We were given 3 brushes (Powder, and 2 shadow brushes).
  • Have a clean tissue with your items on top.
  • Make sure you sanitize the products prior to using it.
  • Always clean the brushes
  • Keep area clean and organized!
I was lucky enough to finish my models look with 2 minutes to spare so I touched up the other areas once more. Once we were complete we went outside and they talked to the models about the looks. We entered once more took a picture with our models and left with hopeful thinking!

For me, it's been about a month and I haven't heard anything. A lot of employees I know says that it takes a long time to call so don't give up. I'm still waiting but if anything I learned all that I could and I can always try again. There are girls who were going for their 3rd-4th time and they improve as they go.

The most important thing to bring to interviews, any interview is to be genuinely real and have confidence. If you are not hired it's not the end of life you can always try again -- just be grateful for the opportunity!! :)

Have you applied for MAC? What was your experience?

Best,
